Top Family Fun Activities at the Lake in Daybreak

Yesterday was a nice day for a Sunday Stroll. Sunday afternoons are always a great day for time with the family. I love to live in Daybreak because of all the outdoor activities that are in the neighborhood. Yesterday we decided to take a walk around the Oquirrh Lake in Daybreak.  If you haven’t heard yet about the activities at the lake in Daybreak, let me fill you in on some of the top family fun activities at Oquirrh Lake.

You can get to the Oquirrh Lake from either 10400 South or 11400 South, it is approximately 65 acres which equates to a perimeter of about 3.4 miles. There is a paved pathway that goes all the way around the lake with plenty of built in benches and picnic areas to enjoy some needed R&R. The lake is a great place to walk, run, bike, or stroller the kiddos. If you decide to walk all the way around the lake here are some of the sites you will see along the trail:

Daybreak Beach
I bet you never expected that buying a house in South Jordan would mean easy BEACH access! Oquirrh Lake does have a fun beach area that kids love to play on. There is no swimming in the Daybreak Lake but you’ll find kids and adults relaxing along the shore, playing in the sand, or even having a family picnic on the boat dock while enjoying the beautiful mountain views.

Kids Play Area
Just east of the Beach, there is a really nice park with lots of activities for the kids. There is public access to a basketball court, climbing area, swings, and slides. There are plenty of shady trees for the adults to relax and watch the kids play. There are even restrooms and water fountain.

North Bay
There are so many charming bridges along the way that make it easy to customize the length of your walk. If you don’t have time for the whole loop, just cut across one of the bridges. Near the north side of the lake, there is a cute boardwalk and small waterfall in the area called North Bay that my little girl loves to hang out by. There are always ducks floating in the water and plenty of rocks by the side of the trail to play on. She is big on collecting rocks these days.

Creekside & Lake Village Model Homes
The Creekside Model Homes in Daybreak provide a nice backdrop for the West side of the lake trail. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the model homes, take a quick detour off of the lake and take a tour. If you are looking for a new home in Daybreak, give me a call I would be happy to help you navigate through the many options of home builders in Daybreak. The two newest villages of Daybreak, Lake Village and Creekside Village, also make for a fun stop on your stroll around the lake. There are several new beautiful model homes to tour that are now open in both phases of Daybreak Utah!

Brookside Park
This is such a peaceful part of Daybreak. Just a block or so from the lake, towards the North West, there is an awesome new park. With all the latest and greatest in fun for the kids, some of the highlights include a activity area built into the brook and a really cool zipline. On a warm summer afternoon this new park is filled with lots of laughter and good times.

Daybreak Island
As you walk around the lake, notice the island in the center. This is proposed by Kennecott as land for future homes to be built on the island. How fun would that be to live on your own island? The views of both the Wasatch and Oquirrh Mountains would make for some nice sun sets.

On the South-West side of the lake, there is a launching ramp for kayaks and sail boats. Best of all, this is available to all Daybreak residents – for FREE. Kayaks aren’t available quite yet, but we will keep you posted when they open for the summer. There are single kayaks and canoes so it’s a great activity to get a little sun and exercise on your own, or take the entire family. It takes just under an hour if you plan to paddle your way around the entire lake. If you want to take a sail boat, you just need to take a sailing class provided from Daybreak in order to get certified. The team that works at the dock is great – just show up with your Daybreak ID Card and they will outfit you with a kayak, life jacket, and help you get started!

A new recreation activity in 2013 is Paddle Boarding! This is a fun mix of surfing and kayaking, if you want to try it out you will need to provide your own paddle board (make sure to get it approved by Daybreak). Or you can rent a paddle board from a few private residents here in Daybreak for a small fee, that are already licensed with the board.

Believe it or not, you can even fish on Oquirrh Lake. You must have a fishing license, here is a link to the information you will need about fishing in Daybreak. I haven’t tried fishing here yet, but I often see people with their poles in the water around the bridges or on the boat docks. If you try fishing in Daybreak, let me know how it is!

The Dam
On the South side of the Lake you will see the dam. Kids like to stop to watch all the rushing water. If you need to cut across 11400 South, there is a little trail that cuts under the road that you can access by the Dam.

SoDa Row
After a nice walk on the lake, cross the street on the South side and you will find yourself on SoDa Row. Stop by one of the tasty restaurants or bakeries and grab a gelato or cupcake. When it starts to get hotter in the summer months, you can also let the kids cool off in the splash pool area. As you can see, there are so many fun reasons to be part of the Daybreak community. If you have any favorite activities in the  Daybreak area we always love suggestions.
