Wallpaper Tips from the Salt Lake Parade of Homes
I hit the pavement yesterday and made it out to 12 houses in this year's Parade of Homes. There were some gorgeous homes and to be honest it really got me excited to build a new home! If you are looking at building a home in Daybreak, DO NOT miss the parade! You will get a ton of great ideas for floorplans, decor, and finishes. I'm keeping score as I go to each home SO check back on the blog because after the Salt Lake Parade of Homes wraps up we will be featuring Daybreak Houses top pick!
Yesterday, one of the homes in Herriman used wallpaper as a focal wall in the Master Bedroom. What do you think? I think over the past couple of years Wallpaper has certainly made a comeback. But is wallpaper a DO or a DON'T? There are so many different styles, textures, and patterns to choose from to spice up your space. In my opinion this pattern is too bold for a bedroom. It doesn't feel soothing and relaxing - too very important things in my own bedroom. Wallpaper is a great way to create a focal wall if the pattern fits the application. Here are some ways I saw wallpaper used well in the homes I went through yesterday:
1- Add in a Small Space
Using wallpaper in a small space, like a half bath, is a great way to add a pop of color and pattern without having to make a huge commitment to the style. You get the feel of the design when walking by and it really gives life to what would otherwise be a bland room. As you can see in the photo below, the wallpaper compliments without overpowering the neutral decor in the rest of the home.
I love textured wallpaper! I am particularly fond of the grass cloth wallpaper. The room below is a beautiful example of how adding texture can warm up your space. The pattern is subtle and the color is neural, but it makes the room feel more upgraded than painted walls. You can really get into the textured wallpaper trend with faux styles even brick and stone. If you already have the perfect paint color picked out, try a paintable textured wallpaper.
3- Removable Wallpaper!
What an awesome idea! For anyone who has ever had to remove wallpaper, this sounds like a dream. Plus it opens up limitless options for renters or those who frequently redecorate. As you can see in the picture below, choosing a brightly colored wallpaper with a graphic design can be a great way to add a focal point to your room. Rather than just painting an accent wall, you can choose a wallpaper to create a dramatic effect. The fun doesn't even have to stop on the walls. Wallpaper can be used on the ceiling and even to pep up your furniture. Try adding removable wallpaper to the back off your bookshelves.
